We need your help!
Cyrus
On March 3, 2008, the Ohio Sphynx Rescue was contacted by a volunteer at a shelter in NJ. They had 4 Sphynx surrendered to their shelter and needed rescue's help. We agreed to take them all. On March 12, 2008 the group of 4 very grumpy Sphynx arrived in northeast OH after a 8-9 hour drive. After settling in, Princess, Miles, Tabby and Simon began to really come out of their shells. Each one had a unique personality, but Simon really started to bond with us. He was a real snuggler and eventually found his way into our bed every night during his time here.
On April 3, 2008, rescue received an application from a wonderful family that was interested in Simon. Their application was processed and they passed with flying colors. After talking to the family, we knew that this was the ideal home for our Simon. Simon arrived home with his new family on April 15. He immediately fit in with the family's 5 small dogs.
Not long after arriving home, Simon, now re-named "Cyrus" began having some diarrhea. He tested positive for Coccidia, an internal parasite, and was treated. After a week, he was still having soft stools and their vet put him on I/D food and a different intestinal antibiotic.
On May 5, 2008, Cyrus stopped eating and didn't appear to be his usual self. His family took him to the vet and they immediately did some bloodwork and hospitalized him. He had elevated kidney values, white blood cells and was slightly anemic. All pointing to some sort of Renal compromise.
After lots of repeat blood tests, and ultrasound, Cyrus' vet has determined that he has Chronic Renal Failure and advanced Heart Disease. He does not feel that Cyrus' prognosis is very good at this point.
Cyrus' new family is extremely attached to their new naked baby and is completely devastated by the news. We also have to mention that their medical bills right now are somewhere around $1200 and this does not include the long term treatment of daily fluids, medications and special diet.
Cyrus had a very rough life prior to coming into rescue. He is a very special young boy that is very lucky to have ended up with a family that is devoted to him and his special needs! He is extremely outgoing and has fit in so perfectly with his new family. They wouldn't dream of trading him for a "healthy" kitten!
We are requesting dontations in any shape or form for Cyrus' medical expenses. Please consider donating to Cyrus' Medical Fund Paypal account. 100% of donations received will be sent directly to Cyrus' vet. If you cannot donate physically, please consider looking around your home for items that the rescue could sell on eBay. They do not have to be pet related, and again, all proceeds will go directly to Cyrus' Medical Fund.
